Course Orientation
The orientation phase of a PADI IDC is crucial for your success. But, it is equally important for a PADI Staff instructor to evaluate teaching presentations. The instructor will help you succeed if you are having difficulty understanding or struggling to learn. The IDC staff instructor will assess all aspects of the curriculum and provide constructive feedback and encouragement.
The PADI Instructor Development Program will allow you to understand the principles and practice of the PADI System of Education and Practice. Course topics will include Dive Industry Overview and Prescriptive Teaching, General Standards and Procedures and Risk Management. The PADI Instructor Development Course orientation can take anywhere from one to three days, depending on what the IDC is about.
Open Water Teaching Presentations
Open Water Teaching Presentations (OTP) are two of the requirements for the PADI Instructor Development Course. These presentations are critical for the overall success in the IDC program. PADI IDC candidates should be able to master two skills at once. These skills could be from different courses. They must practice these presentations before taking the IDC. Candidates must be confident in their abilities and know what they will be doing during the PADI Divemaster course.
PADI Instructor Development courses include nine (9) IDC Curriculum presentations. These presentations must be delivered by the PADI Course director or IDC staff and should relate to the PADI Open Water Divers, PADI Rescue Divers, or PADI Advanced Open Water Course. They must include a Knowledge Development Teaching presentation and two skills presentations from the Rescue Diver Course.
