Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island is home to some excellent offshore dive sites. Visitors can hop on a visiting boat to get out to these dive sites. These areas are great for photography and hunting, as they are usually very rocky. These areas are home to healthy kelp and purple hydro coral. Moreover, the visibility here is excellent for Southern California waters.

It is possible to kayak and snorkel on the island. If it is dry, tent camping can be done. You can also find a large number of pinnipeds living on the island. These include harbor seals (northern elephant seals) and California sealions. These animals can often be seen around the sealion rookery and at several overlooks.

Anacapa Island

Anacapa Island has a diverse marine life. The area is home to one of the first Marine Protected Areas in the United States. It offers diving that is both great for novices and experienced divers. The waters surrounding the island are warm enough to allow you to dive with a wetsuit. The surface temperature can reach as high as 70°F (21°C) during the summer and fall. However, temperatures can drop to as low as 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) in the winter months. It is recommended to wear a 7mm suit. Visibility is usually at least 100 feet (30M) during these months.

Access to Anacapa's dive site can be made by charter boats or the Island Packers. There are many dive sites on the Island, including a 40-foot high arch rock. These sites are also accessible from the sea surface with snorkeling gear.
