To become a cavern dive instructor, you must complete a scuba diver course. This course includes four scuba diver dives. Your instructor will help you plan your dive and maintain your control over your orientation and air flow. The course will prepare you to dive in caves.
Safety
Cave diving safety protocols should follow the Rule of Threes. Cave divers should have at least three sources of light, and two tanks. To ensure they are able to survive the dive, they should separate their gas into three sections. If the dive team is experienced, and has had experience diving in caves before, it is better to use a conservative gas management strategy. Cave divers need to be aware of cave hazards and practice safe diving techniques.
Equipment
Cave diving requires specific equipment. It is important to carry two types of safety reels. One should be used to run guideline, while the other should be used to maintain line tension while the diver is in the cave. For cavern diving, each diver must have a safety rod with enough line for the distance to the cave's entrance. When purchasing a new reel, most manufacturers will pack the spools to the edge with guideline, which makes them more prone to jam. To reduce the chance of jamming, cut about 10 meters (30ft) of length before using.
Maximum penetration
TDI offers a cavern diver course that is designed for scuba divers who wish to dive in areas where direct vertical access is not possible. This includes diving into caverns and overhangs. Although this is not required in order to participate in a cavern diver course, it will give you the necessary skills to make best use of this area. You will learn to navigate the often-hidden spaces safely.

Maximum depth
Cavern diving comes with its own limitations. Cavern diving is not recommended for night dives. Additionally, cavern diving requires more advanced training than most other types of diving. You will need to be familiar with cave safety procedures and your limits if you are interested in diving in caverns. Before diving in caverns, you will need to have had some experience. This will allow you to begin your journey into the wonderful world of cavern-diving!
