He converted an old British minesweeper into a research vessel for oceanographic studies the next year. Unfortunately, he had difficulty raising the funds for the expeditions. Instead, he turned his passion to dive into The Silent World (which became a highly successful movie).
Aqua-Lung has been the most important innovation in diving. It was designed by Jacques Cousteau in 1959 and allows divers to safely and comfortably swim below water. Emile Gagnan
In 1945, Emile Gagagnan and Jacques Yves Cousteau patented the Aqua-Lung diving regulator. Aire Liquide, an American company, purchased the rights to make the regulator. It was later sold to the U.S. Divers Corporation. It was the latest version of the French CG45 regulatory and was built in Canada. This regulator proved to have great success.
Initially, the Aqualung was called Aqua-lung. The first Aqua-lung sold in France was in 1946. Then, it was brought to the U.S. in 1952. In 1958, Air Liquide purchased U.S. Aqua Lung America was established in 1958 by Air Liquide, which purchased U.S. Divers. Air Liquide later acquired the company and made it the largest diving company worldwide. Aqua-lung has become a major component of almost every set Scuba gear.
Emile Gagnan (France) and Jacques Cousteau (France) invented the Aqua-Lung. Both men served as spies during World War II for the French Resistance. Robert Ballard kept his interest in the ocean even after the war. He eventually met Emile Gagnan, a fellow Frenchman who was working for L'Air Liquide. They were both engineers and learned how high-pressure pneumatic design works. Gagnan’s idea was realized into an fully-automated, compressed-air system for scuba diving called Aqua-Lung.
